Portrait of my father
herer
So last week I was commissioned to shoot a portrait for the legendary folk singer Ralph McTell. I was asked for a classic black and white portrait to use as an album cover. At 75 Ralph looks incredible but my brief was to capture the spirit and life experiences through every line, crease and wrinkle on his face. A brutally honest portrait.
I decided to shoot on the Fuji GFX digital medium format camera, which was kindly lent to me by Paul Bence, thanks Paul, and not wanting to appear stupid on a new system I decided to do a test shoot the night before with my 81yr father. As I was setting up the lights I realised I’d never done this before, I’d never sat my father down to shoot his portrait. I love this portrait and elated to have it. I urge all you photographers to capture the ones you love and sure enough that photograph will be priceless to you one day.

Swartzcopf at Wireless 2018
One of my clients, P7, commissioned me to shoot a Swartzcopf event at the Wireless festival 2018, Finsbury Park, London. Key ‘Influencers’, hair bloggers and vloggers were invited to have their hair coloured or groomed by the style team. Hard work in the blazing heat but happy with the results.
Actor Grant Masters
After working with the charming actor Grant Masters on the film Transience earlier this year, Grant and I arranged a shoot to update his acting head shot. Grant explained that his last head shot was good but heavily retouched and like a true actor he wanted something with more character.
Grant was a pleasure to work with, totally engaging throughout the shoot and most importantly was chuffed with the results.
Actress – Sophie Stone
Introducing the incredible actress, Sophie Stone. Sophie was the first profoundly deaf actress to be accepted into RADA. Sophie asked if I could shoot a new head shot for her ages ago so I was delighted when dates aligned and she came over. She was a dream to shoot, captivating eyes and such a gorgeous human being. Wishing her every success with her career.
Transience
I’m currently working on another feature film for Goldfinch Studios up in Selby. This sci-fi is written and directed by Carl Strathe and produced by Charlette Kilby. Its got a great look and feel to it and the cast appear to be 100% committed to the script.
Waiting for Anya
Much of my work comes out of the blue with hardly any notice at all and thats exactly what happened last week when I received a call from film pr, Eric Woollard-White, asking if I could travel to France, a couple of days later to cover a film set visit by the author Sir Michael Morpurgo. His novel ‘Waiting for Anya’ has been adapted for screen by young screenwriter Toby Torlesse for Goldfinch Studios. Directed by Ben Cookson with a very cool cast including Jean Reno, Anjelica Huston and rising star Noah Schnapp, Stranger Things, this has all the ingredients of a great film.
We drove down to Lescun on the French/Spanish boarder on Friday, shot both stills and video all day Saturday and then drove all the way back Sunday. Great road trip!
Noah posted a short teaser clip from the interview I shot on his Instagram page which had over 800,000 views. Well done young man!
